View Full Version : The view of "Services" table not shown readably. A suggestion of correction.
I have some comment regarding the view of the Services table of RunAlyzer:
The items "Stopped" and "Started" in the column Status is not shown readably, as they are both printed in black fonts and they have the same number of letters (!).
Thus, it difficult to recognize the differences between them at first glance. In my opinion, they should be in some way colored: as e.g. "Stopped" - Red color; "Started" - Blue color (green is not very readable).
Sorry, but that doesn't sound like a good idea to me at all. First, even though blue may be easier to read, it's not self-explanatory. But the important thing is that there are already five different colors (installation headers, group headers, three categorizations for the background) in those lists. Switching foreground colors would only cause a lot of confusion.
Also, they're not printed in "black fonts", but in the standard text color. What if a user decides for a blue or red background? Then the blue or red foreground text would be impossible to read!
Btw, with every standard non-monospaced font, the length actually is different, since the number of letters does not equal the length of the text ("Stopped" looks longer than "Started").
Thinking about the problem you seem to refer to, icons indicating the state would be more compatible to different color themes.

Well, I agree with your suggestion that introducing small icons would be better. I am not very experienced with these things.
Another solution could be: an exclamation mark given just after the word "Stopped"; i.e. "Stopped !".
Nevertheless - something should be undertaken as (as for me at least) - the mention column of the table is not very readable - at first glance; and it should be.
The detailed solution is of course up to you. I published the mentioned above suggestion as a proposal of my some "micro" improvement to your excellent project under preparation. The above - hoping that you welcome any initiatives in this direction; even from not very experienced users
Will you accept any further suggestions of mine in the future ??
Sure, please go ahead and suggest more improvements :)
Actually, "even from not very experienced users" is not a negative but a positive condition, since experienced people / developers tend to overlook how some things look from the regular users side ;)
Many thanks - especially for your broad explanations concerned with my many even elementary questions. So, I am grateful for your patience in answering to these. It seems that in few weeks I will be an expert in using your RunAlyzer - in my country; i.e. in Poland (Warsaw) ;)
OT: On the other hand, my sincere congratulations because of launching the newest version of your Spybot S&D 1.5.1.15. I have just installed it and initiated at once. Your project is great and I am recommending it in my firm :bigthumb:
The new version of Spybot S&D went smoothly - but it seems something is wrong as no spies were found in my computer... I was highly disappointed
