I have recently started receiving spam email with the sender address that is my own email address.

I have recently had a number of virus attacks on my laptop (post for help already made in help forum) which includes virumondo. All except the virtumondo seem to have been cleared.

My question is:-

Will this spam be originating from my own machine? (Outlook express is not set up on the infected machine)
How can I stop further mails being sent? Obviously I not only want to stop receiving the mails myself, but if they are also going to other folks they will be a nuisance for them too.

Or will this just me a coincidence that the mail has begun using my own address and nothing at all to do with malware?

I have posted a request for assistance in the appropriate forum, but I was wondering if continuing to use a computer that is known to be infected will cause the infection to spread?

Or should it be shut off and not used until it is confirmed clean?

Hello,

Malware forum topic: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=26348

It might be best if you started a new topic in that forum after reading this:
"BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Adding comments and new logs will set the topic date back.

I forgot to add I tried to download vundofix,

FYI: Do NOT run 'fixes' before helpers have analyzed HJT/KAV scans (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=16806) ;)

Best regards,

Many thanks for your advice.

The Anti Virus I use appears to have managed to clear the infection (SPybot andophos both report no further infection), but on startup now I get a rundll error saying a dll cannot be found (I forget the name but its nothing that makes any sense, just letters).

I was going to post an addition to my assistance request, but don't know whether I should do this now.

Is it possible that the infection is truly gone, or could it have hidden itself?
