If I assume that you are inquiring about "sp1a" of the operating system (XP Home) and not an HP update:
Go into Start » Control Panel.
If you are in Category View:
Click Performance and Maintenance.
The click on System.
If you are in Classic View:
Double click on System
The System Properties information dialog should now be displayed.
In the General tab of System Properties information dialog the version of the operating should be displayed.
