This is irrelevant to tech and all that. But I just wanted to compliment on the update user-profile. It looks a lot different than the old one, but I'll get the hang of it. Thank you.

VBulletin is cool, but sometimes it's too cool that it freaks me out.

I clicked on someone username and I saw the Edit Profile link. :lip:

I thought something is wrong. Click on the link, but it didn't work. Phew.

But... the new user profile will show user's email if set it to show. Will bots be able to harvest it?

I remember previously all we have is a link to email the user, can't remember seeing the email address though.

Logged out and view the profiles. No email addresses. Cool. :)

Oof. I'm having trouble finding it. I might as well leave it. Safe surfing practice. Don't answer unknown e-mails and attachments. :)

I recently noticed a major change. There's a friends list. Statistics... that stand out lols.

What caught my attention was the "blog posts". What's with this? :cowboy:

>;P, I saw one at the local supermarket. Ew, the thought of luncheon meat in... some watery floating sauce just made me want to :yuck: and walk away.

Aha, not like that. But just didn't like the thought of canned food. Not good for your health >:D. :nono:

Members have the option to blog on this site, example: http://forums.spybot.info/blog.php?b=1

I see. However, members cannot start their own topic correct?

Each member's blog page is theirs only, and you have choices.

Hmmm....

While setting up the blog and playing around yesterday, I think I haven't enabled the blog for members of the standard "registered users" usergroup yet :lip:
You see, it's yet another place spambots that would get through the registration could dump their trash, which has to be patrolled :police:
We can enable it and see how it goes though, and if we need to restrict access again, we could always create an additional usergroup for bloggers.
A warning that Tashi reminded me about yesterday though: blogging was kind of a hype, but keeping a blog flowing with useful entries can be hard work ;)

Yikes. :snorkle: Maybe it's not such a good idea. I'm not sure. What I was thinking first was... users like you or tashi could post some interesting stories and posts. Regular members are restricted to only viewing them and commenting them. :P.

Well that'll depend on the folks of this forum. A poll? But that would be too much work.

The picture I got when you said about members posting their own blog would be like... members talking about their day :P, or just some carefree stuff. Computers hobbies and all that. Computer tech stuff can be posted in the Tavern or Spybot forums. :cowboy:

As "expected", every few days some new user who didn't the the difference between "blog" and "forum" posted a question there, so I finally disabled it for standard user accounts (usually takes a few days before I notice, while people are waiting without help) and created a special usergroup who is permitted to blog instead. Existing blog owners have been moved into it.

From my perspective, a blog would be more like entries created by the user, so it'll be more like create and receive comments and feedback. Blog examples would be Xanga.

Forums are a place for discussion. User's come together to share their opinions and knowledge.

I went crazy over the "Team Only" avatars. -.-

tashi

drragostea,

Please do not use Team avatars, obviously something has to be tweaked. Now fixed, thank you for bringing to our attention. ;)

When you're not a Team Member, and you have an avatar of them, other users can become confused.

Deepest apologies. I just thought that they were there for use.

I changed it.

the "Team Only" avatars. -.- Might be a helpful guide to members for the moment. ;)

drragostea

Ah, well there were no notes next to it. It as just like any ordinary avatar. I saw "Team ONLY", and I thought is this a joke?

Well all is fine.

Bring this thread back to action!

I would like to thank PepiMK, SaferNetworking, and Team Spybot on such a fantastic project. Job well done. Bravo. I'll sure to donate.

One major improvement is the memory usage ease of use of TeaTimer in v.1.6.

Immunization is much faster for Firefox 3 (and a lot more entries).

Scanning, I haven't tried that yet. But I will this evening.
