Hi there,

I was just wondering about media players and what was getting since I've just wiped mny computer clean and am looking to install the relevant but most effective programs.

For example I obviously want divx. However (and I'm a novice at this stuff forgive me) I looked online and the latest versions differ slightly. Just wondering which is best?

http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/

DivX Player 6.8.1 or DivX for Windows 6.8???

Which is better?

Also although I've always used the basic divX program I've seen this program:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_codec_pack/

It has a lot of good other functions apart from just divx like AC3, subtitles etc as well as the basic DivX. So in fact is THIS one best? or shall I just download this AND one DivX program? I'd like some advice if this is a safe program and if anyone has used it if possible?

Thanks,

Dan

Divx, plays Divx files too... Personally, I use VLC Media Player since my WMP11 lacks the proper codec to decode a DVD . You can give the VLC Media Player a try. It is a 9MB download and can play almost all extensions.

Oh hey, it also plays DivX formats :santa:.

I've just asked this in other thread. But what program is an able substitute for Windows Meia Player?

What program plays Windows Media Player files? I have Windvd and Powerdvd programs and they show no picture but you can hear sound when I open files with them.

dannyboy, didn't I just answer your question in the previous post? And also I've answered the same question in the post, same goes for honda12 :). We both gave you the suggestion for VLC Media Player. You should have taken a look at it. Corel's WinDVD can play .wmp formats. Same goes for VLC. And about the picture problem... have you tried reinstalling the program? Because the driver "should" be included when you install the media player.

I would recommend listening to drragostea. He is usually always right with these thread questions. This one is no different. VLC Media Player is probably one of the better media players out there.

Thanks drragostea Although I have powerdvd and Windvd both for some reason are not showing picture of wmp avi files (but sound is heard). Really strange. I may well just reinstall the dvd drive program (or windvd, though I've tested it with other dvd drive I have and it works so it must be the actual drive) and see what happens.

By the way, if I download VLC which one is best out of listed below (sorry always want to make sure if there's a best option for which one)?

Danny, I'm so sure what is happening... it would be a waste if you purchased the programs and then it wouldn't work on your computer.. You should give VLC Media Player a try. It never hurts to give it a test drive.

So the DVD programs comes with a disc and a Product Activation Key?

Sorry. I meant I'm *not* so sure...

That's what I got for my super-speedy keyboards .
