Any user installing the latest Microsoft update KB951748, will experience a complete loss of INTERNET access. The security update conflicts with the firewalls handling of dns. This is taken from the zonelarm's user forums:

"We are investigating the issue with the MS update KB951748.

For the time being we suggest you uninstall KB951748 until the issue has been resolved.

We will post when we have more information."

You can uninstall the update via add remove programs. Make sure show updates is checked! This will restore your INTERNET connection and will allow the zonealarm firewall to work correctly.

I will provide updates here to this thread when i receive more information on this issue.

Wasn't... today's update (with Malicious Tool) the update you mentioned above? If so, then I'm fine... I just uninstalled ZA Free.

Cr*p. I plan to use Comodo later in the week... so I'll see how it goes.

I had tried that and it did not work, the only solution i found that worked for me was uninstalling the security update temporary. But that solution did work for some people. Thanks for the add!! :bigthumb:

Zone labs say they are working with Microsoft for a solution and should provide an update soon. For now, they recommend hiding (as in don't show me this update again.) and preventing the security update KB951748 from Microsoft from being installed until the issue can be resolved.

I see. I'm going to check Microsoft Updates to see if there is any more updates.

FYI: Windows Update can be upgraded to Microsoft Updates. I don't mean the website.

Hm. All I'm getting is update: KB951978.

Edit: I found the update the 129260 was talking about. So far no conflicts. I'm currently using Windows Firewall and plan to upgrade to Comodo.

The update knocked out my Internet access... I used "system restore" on my Windows XP Home Edition to get access back

Yes, for now do not install that update yet...

System Restore tends to uninstall all the Microsoft Updates that the user applied prior to Restore. For this function it can prove both beneficial or bad to the user.

Problem resolved. Setting it to Medium should be a workaround. Vista users are not effected.

I have the free zonealarm and it can be only set to medium, setting it to low or even off does not work ether. The only workaround known to always work is what was stated in the very first thread. =]

UPDATE!!!
