would an open source virus scanner be less secure?
I actually never heard of an open source virus scanner before.......what's it called?
ClamAV is open source,I believe. And I think there are a couple others.

ok well ill try it out along with spybot just to be on the safe side.
Just remember spybot detects spyware and keyloggers, and dialers. etc. Not viruses!! ;)

would an open source virus scanner be less secure?
Well, of course any software can be not secure it really depends on how well coded the software is. A good indication of that, is the popularity of the software and ClamWin and ClamAV are the most popular open source anti-virus software today
If it wasn't well coded, people wouldn't download and use the program :grandpa:
I do not however recommend using ClamWin as a replacement to your current anti-virus because it does get less frequent definition updates which in this day and age can make a big difference. None the less, ClamWin is a very useful and portable Anti-virus app :police:
