i have nero essentials that came with my external dvd-burner but i could not get nero to convert divx to dvd because of the restrictions in it. i also have used 7-zip, but i can not get it to extract multiple rar files without it being errors. windows mediaplayer doesnt play everything and i dont want to use codec packs. divx burned to cd does not work well in my dvd-players, and it isnt space to all divx movies on cds either.

do you have some replacements to this programs to recommend? i mean freeware.

Well, you can use Winamp (http://www.winamp.com) instead of Windows Media Player and CDBurnerXP (http://cdburnerxp.se) instead of Nero.
About file archivers, I don't know which file archiver is the best, but you can compare some of them: Comparison of file archivers - Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_archivers) .

thanks:) i was searching on google right now, because i have heard some time ago that winamp includes the spyware wildtangent, i hope it doesnt include it anymore. it seemed that winamp doesnt play movies, is that right?

i will try cdburnerxp again, but the last time i tried it months ago, i couldnt convert divx to dvd with it as i can remember. i will try them, and i am going to look for a file archiver too, and look closer on the article from wikipedia.

I Use Win Rar 3.71 for my archiving as Win Zip 11.2 doesn't like my Vista computer very much.

i thought you must pay for winrar, i only use freeware and will not use keygens and cracks anymore if i want something.

You can use WinRAR for 30 days.
When WinRAR becomes expired, will be able to use it still, but you will get a popup like this when you run it: "WinRAR is not free. You can use trial for 30 days. etc..." and 4 buttons:"Continue", "Buy WinRAR", "How to buy it" and "Help", I think. I use WinRAR. Possibly the same thing with WinZip.

then everything is easier, i will download all this ones right now, but i must look for more information on winamp before downloading and using it.

I always recommend VLC Media player for my media files: http://www.videolan.org/

Yes, I recommend that. I started using it because bitman recommended it to me. :P My WMP 11 couldn't decode a DVD.

there was no sound when burning music with cdburnerxp, so i installed nero essentials again and when burning with nero it was sound again. i have burned music with cdburnerxp before and it worked at that time, but this one was newer than the one i have used before so maybe that is the cause.

Maybe you can try burning music with Jetbee (http://www.complexnt.com/) (Download (http://http://www.complexnt.com/jetbee_downloads.htm)/Features (http://www.complexnt.com/jetbee_features.htm)).

You could give Puppy linux a try - if your hardware is compatible with the packaged drivers, it's all good (and the forums are quite extensive and knowledgeable if you wish further advice). gxine works for me, but then I'm not all that big on pulling content off the `Net ;) - a big plus in Puppy is the burning s/w is pretty much bulletproof (has to be for a liveCDvD). Best of luck with non-invasive winapps

thanks:) nero is annoying because of all that is included in it.

cdburnerxp worked after installing all of the .net frameworks, this is just to give feedback. i will buy nero i think, but i dont like everything that comes with it.

I like Nero a lot, mostly since it's the app I used for more than 10 years now. The version I've sitll got installed (6.5 or something) doesn't work perfectly on XP 64 though (after burning, the confirmation dialog cannot be clicked and I have to shut Nero down the hard way), so I found ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/), a successor to the now outlawed DVD Decrypter. If you know what you want to do, it's perfectly tiny. Otherwise, I remember I had good impressions about CDBurnerXP, too, can only underline that recommendation :)

I second PepiMK - Imgburn is so simple and easy to use but at the same time sooo customisable. The guys at LightningUK do a great job :p:

Well actually .iso burning is only a small part of imgburn :p:

i understand, image all over the place.:)

i will download imgburn later today, after installing and configuring online armor.

i have just burned the sp3 iso with cdburnerxp, i dont know if imgburn is better to burn images but i will think so since it is called imgburn.

i am a little mad now, i installed something called freeramxp that should speed up the computer and i saw it was popular, after installing it i needed to click several times on things on the computer and on this forum, my computer startup slowed down and i couldnt find the uninstaller that belongs to freeramxp, not in revo uninstaller or other places. the only program that could possibly have removed the uninstaller is the registry cleaner in crapcleaner so i deleted the freeramxp .exe file manually and disabled its autostart in its settings and then things went better, until i installed online armor that made more mess on the computer than the worst malware i have ever had. it freezed the computer, messages about outgoing connections on different ports appeared all the time and i couldnt turn off the messages. online armor started several processes because of some error and it was almost impossible to shut them down, so i forced a computer shutdown.

afterwards i uninstalled almost all programs i had on the computer in madness, and revo found some uninstallers that windows didnt find.

revo was the only program that could help me with all this crap (thanks drragostea:) )

now i have run checkdisc, and defragmented the computer with auslogics disc defrag and are scanning with norman antivirus/antispyware, then i will scan with spybot afterwards.

i will NEVER use registry cleaners, tweaking software and third party firewalls again, the windows firewall is enough for me.

i barely want to install imgburn also, maybe it makes things worse.

burnaware wich i used months ago set the burning speed down on my burner and i couldnt burn faster than 6 in speed and couldnt change it even after uninstalling burnaware.

there is so much junk programs out there that i cant even tell.

maybe i should look closer on the "registry cleaners not recommended thread" also, again. crapcleaner and the other programs i used is just crap

the only one i dont know if is safe wich i use now is auslogics disc defrag.

holy moses:spider:

Hello, Spybot is a great program and i am glad there people that are as good hearted and professional as to make it free, since majority of us cant afford to pay the internet mafia for protection, so a big Thanks for the team!

About CDBurnerXP, i just downloaded it as i was looking for a free cd burner and it completely froze the computer, it wouldnt even turn off,
Its first time its happening to me with this computer which has Vista, i think it happened when I pressed the play button on the player inside it...
And my internet seems slower now although i unistalled CDBurnerXP

What do you think? Could it be dangerous?

I have used CCleaner for years without a problem, simple cleanups, not registry. :)

I've been installing and testing programs for a loooong time now and I've never had any problems :spider: (maybe I just get lucky! :santa:)

errm....hope everything goes well

Yeah, my fav programs for testing programs: Revo uninstaller (always useful to get rid of all the leftover traces of a program) and ccleaner (like tashi - no registry)

The only thing I do with the registry is either back it up or use NT Registry Optimizer  (although the difference is hardly noticeable - I'm too stubborn for the placebo effect to work on me!)

ATM im beta testing Advanced Windows Care v3 - Which I like to recommend to novice users (and lazy users ) - For me though, it doesn't offer enough control

In replacement for 7-Zip, I suggest IZArc:

http://www.download.com/IZArc/3000-2250_4-10072925.html?part=dl-10072925&subj=dl&tag=button

In replacement for Windows Media Player, I suggest Satsuki Decoder Pack:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Satsuki_Decoder_Pack.htm

Both are spyware-free freewares that work perfectly well with me.

i didnt like winrar. i use 7-zip, but i couldnt get 7-zip to extract multiple rar files, like rar001 and such. so i will try IZArc, i have never heard about it before, i hope it is safe.

i also use k-lite codec pack full with media player classic, because vlc mediaplayer had to difficult settings. what is the difference between Satsuki Decoder Pack and k-lite codec pack?

what is the difference between Satsuki Decoder Pack and k-lite codec pack?
Satsuki Decoder Pack is just composed of filters (no codecs!), so it does not burden your system and it prevents conflicts between codecs.
