I have been having a problem with 4 new.net registry files which spybot accurately located on my system where as numerous other spyware detection programs failed to spot it. I have Ewido, adaware se, spy blaster, spyguard, zonealarm anti spyware. However Spybot was unable to remove these 4 files. no matter what i did spybot claimed it was unable to remove them because something else was using them. With help from SWI forums I was guided to unistall spybot S+D and reinstall it to see if this would eliminate the 4 registry files to no avail. Eventually I manually opened regedit exported the 4 files into a back up location and deleted them manually and re ran spy bot. this time it showed the following error message in german followed by congratulations no immediate threats are found.
the following is the error message I get everytime I run spybot.

error during check. Mailbot [ Datei C:\Windows\win.ini kann nicht geoffnet werden. The process cannot access the file because the file is being used by another process]

I am worried that perhaps the scan is not complete. Who can comment on this?

The scan most likely did not complete.

Go into Spybot > Help > About. What version of Spybot are you running?

If you are running Spybot-S&D 1.3 and it is not a Windows 95 system you should upgrading to Spybot-S&D 1.4 to correct the problem.

Download sites for Spybot-S&D 1.4:

I recommend that you uninstall before installing a new version:

I've got the exact same error message starting as of the last update which would imply it's a problem with the update.
error during check. Mailbot [ Datei C:\Windows\win.ini kann nicht geoffnet werden. The process cannot access the file because the file is being used by another process]and I'm in Australia

And,this thread for more explanation:

So,unless you're running Windows 95,you should consider upgrading to Spybot
1.4.

The latest load of updates have resolved the issue.

One of them automatically shutdown and restarted spybot after it was downloaded and installed so I'm guessing that one was the one ?
