I have this howling wind noise which occurs randomly while in Internet Explorer. I have not been able to link it to any specific event. I have run Spybot as well as some other malware detectors but the problem still exists.

Can anyone suggest a tool that will allow me to isolate what is causing this sound?

Thanks

Could it be your fan that is causing the noise?

The "howling" noise usually occurs when you are running a virus/spyware scan. Or you are running multiple programs or a memory intensive application such as Adobe Photoshop.

I doubt there is a tool that can "isolate" the problem...

I'll need some time, to "gather" some information. I'll get back to you.

No, this is definitely a sound file playing. I do know the diff between the air blowing out of the laptop which is docked at the side of the desk and the sound coming out of the speakers on the monitor.

Does it still occur if you mute or turn off the speakers?
What do the malware scanners detect?

How about Spybot?
What is your Operating System?
