One of my pcs was badly infected with CWS,Shopping Wizard and Search Extender to the point that I'm now running Xoftspy,CCCleaner,AdAware,RegistryRepair and SpyBot to try and keep it clean.
When I run SpyBot as the last cleaner it takes hours and freezes when it finds CWS files even tho' the other cleaners reported I'm all clean.
Anyone have any ideas ?

Hello.

CWS detection rules may slow the overall scanning performance but not for hours.

Scan speed (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=3653)

By which method did you clean the computer and what is the Operating System?

An Anti Virus and Firewall application is not mentioned, are they installed and if so which ones.

Cheers.

I've run all the apps. mentioned with clean results before trying SpyBot. I'm running WINME with symatico.ca security services.

I've just terminatee SpyBot after 12 hours - stuck on the CWS files. I'm going to try running it in "safe mode".
Also noticed that it slows on files named "Carima Enterprises" and "AdGoblin". Will let you know what happened.

Hello justmike.

If scanning in safe mode does not solve the problem would you do the following so we can take a look at the system please.

See here on how to get a HJT log, you can skip the Spybot scan as that is what you have a problem with. :D
BEFORE you post a log, and who will advise you. Preliminary Steps (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

The instructions warn about inexperienced users attempting to use HJT - so maybe I'll just let SpyBot continue running in "safe mode" for a couple of days and see if that clears up the mess once and for all before trying HJT. Will keep uou posted when and if SpyBot completes the scan.

There are experienced helpers in the malware forum that guide you in using hijackthis. You don't have to do it on your own.

The warning regarding hjt is so that people do not use hjt to analyse their own log and attempt to fix items without experienced guidance; which we provide in the malware forum.

Simply running a scan and producing a log is not cause for concern.

That log would be useful in helping us to determine if there something on the system that is slowing down the Spybot scan ie: an infection.

I would ask for a Spybot-S&D log but that appears to be out of the question because of the problems you are experiencing. :)

Well I let SpyBot run in safe mode and after 24 hours got the "Congrats" (aka all clear) message. Then I ran it again in safe mode immediately after and again after 24 hours I got the "Congrats" message.
Then I rebooted to almost normal mode ( only Explorer and Spybot apps. running) , started Spybot and was surprised to see it freeze again while it was examining CWS Feat..dlls again. So I killed it after 8 hours, ran AdAware and Xoftspy which both came back clean, ran RegistryPro then CCCleaner and started Spybot again in the almost normal mode again. It froze again on the CWS files. So either I'm getting a false positive or the other cleaners I'm
using are returning a false negative.

To satisfy myself , it looks like I'll have to try the HJT log creation process for transmittal to the Forum. Any help you can provide in running the log create procees would be appreciated.

FYI I am concerned you might be googling for a program to remove spyware.

Many members in any malware removal forum are there because they did so and now have infected computers.

Please see:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=3600

This is the support forum for Spybot-S&D.

Spyware Removal has it's own support/forum link which one cannot see unless one registers.

Hmmmmm

Again I suggest you post a hjt log so that we may assist you.

Regards.
