I tried to update S&D this morning, but two of the files will not download properly. S&D reports tham as having bad checksums...

Is this a known problem, or am I doing something wrong (using old version?).

The files to be downloaded are 'Detection Rules' and 'Imm. database'.

Here is the text from the download dialog log function...

5/12/2006 9:24:34 AM Downloaded update info file. (http://security.kolla.de/updates/spybotsd.ini)

Go into Spybot > Help > About. You should be running Spybot 1.4 not Spybot 1.3 (unless you are on a Windows 95 system). Download sites for Spybot-S&D 1.4:
Four (4) here:Mirror Selection – The home of Spybot–S&D!

After you upgrade you still can get "Bad Checksum" errors. "Bad Checksum" problems are usually caused by overloaded download servers.

To change download servers and for a workaround for "Bad Checksum" errors please see:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=345&postcount=2
Note: The download server can be changed after the "Search for Updates" and before clicking "Download Updates". So if you find a server that works well, you can start by using that server in the future. Also note that if you want (not necessarily recommended) you can select a server and then right click on the button and "Set this server as the preferred download location". If you do that Spybot will select that sever rather than a random server for future updates.

Additional information:
When updating, why do I get an error message that the "update is forbidden" / "bad checksum!!!"?

I could tell from the log you posted that you were running Spybot 1.3. The integrated update for Spybot 1.3 starts by downloading:
http://security.kolla.de/updates/spybotsd.ini
The integrated update for Spybot 1.4 starts by downloading:
http://www.safer-networking.org/updates/spybotsd.ini
The spybotsd.ini files are duplicates of each other (or possibly the same file) but they come from different site names.

Additional notes:

I recommend that you uninstall before installing the new version:

If you upgrade and use TeaTimer be aware of the following:
There is currently a bug in TeaTimer 1.4. Portions of TeaTimer's popup dialog overlay the "Allow change" and "Deny change" buttons. On my system the very top edges of the "Allow change" button (on the left) and "Deny change" button (on the right) are showing and I am still able to select the options. I also can check "Remember this decision" since it is visible. If no portion of the "Allow change" and "Deny change" buttons are showing, you can answer TeaTimer's popup dialog (English language version) by pressing "A" on your keyboard for "Allow change" or "D" for "Deny change". Note: If you close the dialog without answering "Allow change" or "Deny change" the registry change is denied.

If you can't deal with the problem that way until it is fixed, you can:
Apply one of the workarounds found in the following pinned (Sticky) thread that fixes the pop-up dialog so the buttons are visible:
Solution to fix the pop-ups in TeaTimer
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=122

There are (3) fixes published in that thread. They are:

The ResHacker fix published by ElPiedra (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=128) here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=423&postcount=1
The murdo (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=440) patch published here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=775&postcount=9
Or the patch originally by SyreneD (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=1735) that I published here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=2670&postcount=38

Disable TeaTimer as follows:
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Resident.
Uncheck the following:Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) Active.

I experienced the thing with "bad checksums" too. I just clicked to update again and it worked. :bigthumb: May be a problem with overloaded download servers. You know, 'gotta wait your turn'. ;)
