Hi can you please help with this line on hijack this? -
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [autochk] rundll32.exe C:\DOCUME~1\NETWOR~1\protect.dll,_IWMPEvents@16
I checked the box against it top fix it, but it didn't work.

On searching the internet I found several hijack lists with this type of line, so must be related to a common programme, only on my daughters laptop i believe it's corrupted.

Laptop running winxp2

I get a run32dll.exe - bad image error message - is not valid windows image and after closing it I get another message in rundll box - error loading c:DOCUME~1\NETWOR~1\protect.dll %1 is not a valid win32 application.
Have tried unchecking box (says protect) in msconfig, but after applying the new setting, when I go back in it is checked again automatically.

also have tried searcing the drive including hidden folders for protect.dll without any success.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Ok, decided that this protect.dll must be harbouring a virus/malware, although initial runs with Symantec & her normal spyware program (can't remember the name, she was only here for the weekend), I downloaded Malwarebytes prog & while running this, her spyware program actually popped up saying there was a trojan virus & removed protect.dll.
I don't know what the - IWMPEvents@16 - extension was but the whole line in startup has gone, & laptop worked fine.
