Just a reminder task to let you know this is a topic for us that were are aware of, recognize the need to improve something, and that the next version will address this :)
Details TBA / you'll surely note them in the next public beta.

On my clapped out laptop S&D takes about 1 Hr 45 mins to run through all 150,000 virus checks. Because it takes so long and in general it will take longer as more stuff has to be looked for. I think it would be a good idea to make the program stoppable, remembering where it is (optional) and restartable from some user inputted check number. This is so if the S&D is running I could terminate it, if some more urgent occurs and restart it from some specified point at a later date.

For just pausing, there already is a pause button.
Granted, it does not allow you to close the application, but paused you can keep it in the background without it blocking the system.

One of the two major improvement points in the next release will be attacking the point of new detections making the scans take longer and longer. Obviously you can't reduce that to zero, but it'll have less impact and will start off a shorter scanning time.

1.6 beta 1 is finally there, so here's to five times the speed hopefully :)

Hi,

Just downloaded 1.6. Time for full scan was about 9 min on XP Prof. Everything seems to be working fine. Thanks.

Thankds for the first feedback on this issue :)
Could you please also let us know how long it took before 1.6 beta 1 approximately?

I'm quite surprised... it feels like I just installed Spybot 1.5.2.20 yesterday, lols. PepiMK... do we have to uninstall Spybot 1.5.2 (following the un-installation rules)? Or just install over the latest version?

Wouldn't have done any good withholding this update just to keep a regular duration between updates, right? ;)

Beta 1 probably likes being installed "fresh" instead of over an older version (we'll address this in beta 2), so either uninstallating the previous one, or installing the beta into a separate folder, will do :)

Gee, I'm not sure . I think it took about 20 minutes.

If it is important I can reload 1.5 and check.

Thanks, I just wanted to know how much the situation improved, twice as fast sounds better than nothing, hoping for more reports from others now :)

These are my results:

Spybot 1.5.2 updates 04/06/08, all file sets including beta (some tracks excluded): 15'54"

Uninstalled 1.5.2, installed 1.6 beta.

Spybot 1.6.0.25 updates 04/06/08, all file sets including beta (same tracks excluded): 05' 24"

~3 times faster!

XP SP3 all updates.

Thanks PepiMK. I'll wait until the final release. Until then, I'm holding on to 1.5.2.20. Is there a thread for suggestions?

 I know that asking for a whole GUI change may be too much... but a change to the icons? ;P

Thanks for the feedback so far :)
Next ones, please also report whether you use the Download Directories feature or not (that one isn't sped up yet).

@ddragostea: the whole GUI will be new in 2.0, until then, there's a "stupid" reason to keep the GUI exactly as it is: there are hundreds of cases where people get tricked into downloading something they get advertised as Spybot, but that'll ask them to pay. Keeping the known look might help at least a tiny bit to avoid even more confusion with rogues.

Hier meine erste Rückmeldung ^^:

Scanzeiten (inklusive download directories/Lesezeichen/Gebrauchsspuren):
1.5.2.20 : 20:20 min = 1220 s
1.6.0.25 : 6: 53 min = 453 s

Fast dreimal schneller auf meinem Rechner [Windows XP, SP3, Dual Core 2 (2x 1,86 GHz)]. Sehr gute Arbeit! :) Lässt sich da noch mehr rauskitzeln ?? ;)

I'm now testing including donload directories (all 1,2TB of them; useless, I know) :lip:
