View Full Version : Opera plugin immunization fails on missing file

Situation: Spybot-S&D immunizes the Opera browser, including a plugin immunization.

Experienced: Spybot-S&D looks for plugin-ignore.ini in the application path (the same that Opera.exe resides in). If it is missing, it does not immunize this part.

Expected: even if the user wold manually create the file, it might not affect Opera, since Opera has a changed the default path for a default file here, the defaults subfolder now. Spybot-S&D should, if it does not encounter plugin-ignore.ini in the main folder, but in the defaults subfolder, immunize this.

Since that is named "defaults", it might have been nice to not touch it, but we made the experience that using the Plugin ignore file path setting in opera6def.ini does not get reflected in opera:config#Plugin Ignore File and thus may not be effective.

This only seems to be for 9.50+ the current groups is 7+ so maybe we just need a new group for the new ones?

A new group would just clutter the screen; groups are for very different file formats / names / structures. And as long as profiles are compatible to each other and it might even be unclear which version is using a data profile, splitting does not really make sense - it would only lead to a "maybe 9.50 or not, but at least 7+" group for everything but the plugins ;)

Ah true, it says fixed, is there a patch I can test out?

I can confirm this bug, so I find it wrong that it says "fixed".

43 Opera plugins fail to immunize.

I have tried this:

Immunize, 43 plugins fail to immunize.
Right click, de-select all items.
Check the one single box that failed to immunize.
Clicked UNDO.
Now the status says 0 items unprotected. But can this really be true?
I right click, select all items.
Clicking IMMUNIZE.
43 plugins for Opera are now unprotected.

I know how to make Spybot think that everything is protected, but I don't know if I can trust Spybot on this. It is self-contradicting. It's like unlocking the door in order to lock it.

Spybot 1.6.0.31.
Opera 9.62 (build 10467).
Windows XP.

Edit,
Of course all browser windows are closed when I immunize.

@Lancelot: as redlabour has posted above your comment, it is fixed for example in 1.6.1.37. 1.6.0.30 is the version this report marks as affected. So speaking about terminology, it could never be marked as fixed if you do not regard newer versions ;) Which feedback do you expect? All feedback on 1.6.1.37 was positive imho.

Sorry, I didn't notice a new build is released. I think I expected to be notified about new versions when I update Spybot. I think it worked that way before.

What feedback I expected? I simply expected an answer, and you just gave me one. :)
