The independent testing body AV-Test has released the results of a major comparative test of antivirus products, covering detection rates for various types of malware. In the tests, avast! antivirus detected over 99% of all malware types (and more than 98% of adware and spyware) and has therefore received a "++" rating for its detection rates in on-demand scanning. Wow, and to think that I pay for McAfee, a great bloated mess of a program, when I could get such a light yet effective program for free on my laptop. McAfee can't even DETECT the Virtumonde my laptop caught, the first ever virus that has gotten inside my computer, let alone get rid of it.
