Description:

SearchPixieBar installs a toolbar into the Internet Explorer without user consent. The SearchPixieBar seems to provide the possibillity to search the web like the Google Toolbar does. But in reality the search option does not work and only advertisement will be displayed.

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer to locate and get rid of these entries.

• Products that have a key or property named "ToolbarBestToolbarsToolbar.ToolbarBestToolbarsToolbarObjectIEToolbar".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.

• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\about.html".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\basis.key".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\basis.xml".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\error.html".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\inst.bat".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\logo.bmp".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\nav.bmp".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\options.html".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\toolbar.crc".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\toolbar.dll".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\toolbar.inf".
• The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar\version.txt".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If SearchPixieBar uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.

• The directory at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\IEToolbar".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If SearchPixieBar uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.

• Delete the registry key "IEToolbar" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BestToolbars\".
• A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "Softomate.IEToolbar", plus associated values.
• A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "Softomate.IEToolbar.1", plus associated values.
• A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolbarBestToolbarsToolbar.ToolbarBestToolbarsToolbarObject", plus associated values.
• A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolbarBestToolbarsToolbar.ToolbarBestToolbarsToolbarObject.1", plus associated values.
• Delete the registry key "{1AE2F26C-8E23-4930-A68D-9E681A764001}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\".
• Delete the registry value "{92F02779-6D88-4958-8AD3-83C12D86ADC7}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".

If SearchPixieBar uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
