On Feb 15 my hard drive failed, so I thought.
A 3 1/2 boot disk fail. Oh, I thought, a bad disk. And another?

May I suggest boot to dos mode. And run SCANREG /RESTORE
Pick the date before you installed 1.6. Then after your system is up uninstall 1.6.
You have about 4 or 5 day window to do this....
Sounds good. After runing 1.6 scan a number of times, I remember why I installed 1.4 over it. (Also I discovered if I cancel the scan, 1.6 crashes my video and system the same as 1.5.2 did.)
Ref:...
Spybot 1.6 is now back on my system. Because it indiscriminately exceeds system resources without warning, I must do updates through the teatimer only. If the updates launch Spybot the system, will...
I have no plans of not using Windows 98SE. I do have plans to upgrade Windows Me to XP (different hard drive.)
I plan on making the computer dual boot. 98 & Me and then upgrade Me partition to XP....
Instead of putting all those tools into Spybot. Look at making a shell program which would make all those programs available to run from one program. The teatimer, could also have those added tool...
I know Firefox is a very good browser. But currently it has two unpatched secerity issues. (But then I should talk runing Windows 98SE.)
Opera 9.61 as of today has no unpatched security issues....
Spybot 1.6 works better than 1.5.2 (ouch, it crashed the graphics card.). But I found that my system resources could not handle 1.6 either. I deleted 1.6 exe and overlayed 1.4.
1.4 Works fine...
I still use the Internet Explorer 5.5. I have K-Meleon 1.5 and I like Firefox 2.0.0.17 (because I'm not using XP I can not use Firefox 3.) I'm impressed with Opera 9.6. The Netscape Communicator...
Here is the result of for http://acid3.acidtests.org/
9.52 was 84/100, 9.6 is 85/100
Neither Opera 9.52 nor IE5.5 can upload attachments to this forum. Only Firefox 2.0.0.17 works correctly here.
Here is the image/attachment of Opera 9.52:
I just recently intalled Opera 9.52 (a 9.6 is available.) And it did well, though failing: 84/100
I use a few browsers. IE 5.5 (Which was no longer supported for Windows 98, only Windows Me and up updates for it.) And FireFox 2.0.0.12. The only Browser which was last supported for Windows 98SE...
*******
You are generally right.
I keep no personal data on my computer. I'm on slooow dial up (26400 bps at best) I use a firewall which keeps appliations for using the internet without my permission....
My OS is Windows 98SE so I'm still using Ad-Ware SE. But automatic download and update is no longer supported so one needs to down load the new def.ref zip file manually:
Zip file from...
Hi Bob,
I use a program called nistime-32bit.exe to set my time. So I'm not using the timedate control panel up and down dialog box arrows anyway.
And I found this command line which can be...
Hi Bob,
Well, again.
The file you want to look at restoring using sfc is the timedate.cpl control panel. And if that doesn't fix it, check the properties (versions) and file dates of the...
Hi Bob,
After checking using System Internal's Process Explore, clicking the mouse on Adjust Date/Time runs Rundll32.exe and its Mutex OLESCMLOCMUTEX. And what file the Rundll32.exe is executing I...
Hi Bob,
Yes, I guess I did miss that.
I use the TClockEx program, which the author wrote out of frustration with the system tray clock....
I had no problem with the install. But with only 2 128Mb RAM (256Mb). But it seems 1.5.2 uses more system resouce than 1.4. I think I may have too many back ground applications to use 1.5.2. My...
Hi Bob,
I'm sorry you didn't understand. You need to restore a past saved good registry. (While any of them are still there!!) (One before the clock problem) It is not that a registry is bad,...
Actually you can do this from the dos prompt in windows:
C:\WINDOWS\scanreg /backup
C:\WINDOWS\scanreg /restore
There may be only 4 or 5 backup registries. So the longer one waits to use...
You might be able to fix the problem. But to do it this way you must do it soon. (Depends on how many days of good registry backups remain.)
Boot in to DOS mode.
Run Scanreg.
Make a backup...
My suspicion is the cause might be a resource use issue. Ref 1% system free 1.5.2 versus 1.4 with at 12% system resouces free. And that there had been Kernel32.dll problem with the Internet...
There were two problems. One, if the scan was stopped the video would go upon closing the program.
If the scan was allowed to run untill it finished I would get the program performed an illegel...
