    Default Is Windows Corrupted?

Right I had the Zlob trojan on my desktop two days ago. I did not know this at the time. I just kept seeing pop ups saying I had a trojan and then being taken to a weird site selling anti virus. I did not trust it. So I went to Mcafee and installed their security centre. Scans were all clear. It seemed to go away. Then next tiome I log on ...computer running very slow. Ifigure its Mcafee...as it takes loads of memory up. So I go and start uninstalling bits...like thevirus protwection. The pop ups come back. Internet explorer starts not to work. I panic. I start a sysytem restore. I log back on. ****....now I cannot even acess the control panel....

    This message comes up:

    C:Windows/system32\rundill32.e...
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I went into safe mode, clicked off system restore, run Spyhunter, removed the trojan,....but as I cannot turn system restore back on in safe mode.....

Hi SleepyStill07 and welcome to the forums

Please post a HijackThis log to here:
    • Click here to download HijackThis.exe
    • Save HijackThis.exe to your desktop.
    • Create a new folder named HijackThis to your desktop. Move Hijackthis.exe into that folder.
    • Run HijackThis.exe
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

    Hi again

Ok, the safe mode with networking is a bad thing, you're unprotected. However I need you to download some tools and if you absolutely have no other choice than safe mode with networking, you may use it. But when you have downloaded the programs, unplug your computer from the internet until you have completed the instructions.

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
    • Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
    • Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
    • On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
      • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
      • Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
      • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
      • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
    • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
    • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
    AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
    Do NOT run yet.

    Make your hidden files visible:
    • Go to My Computer
    • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
    • Click the View tab.
    • Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
    • Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
    • Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
    • Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

    ==================

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of these entries if still present. Close all other windows and press Fix checked. If something isn't there, please continue with the next entry in the list.

Default Done HIjack This File with Laptop computer as it had the same ZLOB infection

I hope its ok me posting this hijack file here. It is NOT from my desktop (which is what the previous hijack file log was above). Its just that for peace of mind...even though spybot search and destroy and spy hunter are not detecting it....as I have been going through the steps for my desk top......I noted that AVG scanner has detected the Zlob downloader. I therfore think.....that I perhaps need to let you see also my Hijacked file log for my laptop too. If you would rather I start a seperate thread for my laptop hijacked file...please let me know (as I don't want to get confused as to what your instructions are applying to...i.e my laptop or my computer!!!!). Or just make it clear which computer you are refering to when you send your instructions (i.e laptop...hijacked file posted now..in this post or desktop...as seen in my 3rd post today...above).
