Default "Spybotsd14.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

I downloaded Spybot 1.4. It arrived as a 14KB file. When I clicked on it, I got a message saying that it is not a valid Win32 file. My OS is XP. I deleted the file and downloaded again with the same result. What's up?

    Hello,

Your file seems to be damaged.
Please make a fresh download. Uninstall your old version with the very small fix before downloading the new one.
Please consider the following link for this uninstall:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/27.html
Then delete your temporary internet files in your browser in order that nothing blocks the new download.
    Then make a fresh install.
You will find links to several download locations on our website.
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Do not forget to update using the integrated updater.
If the integrated updater does not work please download and run the manual update:
    http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates...d_includes.exe

If this does not solve the problem you might be infected with a virus.

For a free anti-virus software for personal use, take a look at H+BEDV AntiVir:

    That workded, Sandra. Thank you.

However, none of the help files will open. They highlight when I click on them, but nothing happens.

    undercrow:

Try using the help facility from within Spybot-S&D:
    • Start Spybot-S&D.
    • Press the F1 key

That does not work either. The "Help panel opens with its index, contents, and search tabs. But if you click on an item in the index or contents, or if you enter a search term, nothing happens.

Does it say action cancelled or page cannot be displayed over in the right pane,or anything like that?

No. Absolutely nothing happens, except that the selected item lights up.

Do other .chm (Compiled HTLM help file) besides Spybot's work properly? To try:
    • Using Windows Explorer navigate to Windows\Help.
    • Double click on any .chm (Compiled HTLM help file).

Okay,I was thinking maybe your .chm files were blocked,as that happened to me once when trying to open help for teatimer(XP),if I recall that correctly. But on second thought,I think I was able to open the .chm's when doubleclicking them in the Spybot folder,I just kept getting Action Cancelled until I unblocked them by rightclicking the .chm file, selecting properties, then selecting unblock(or maybe that was vmware's help file,I can't remember exactly.),so that's probably not what's happening with you.

And nothing happened when you tried to open the .chm files in Spybot's folder, you didn't get any error messages?

    Hi,md.Did not see you there.

    md,

Other .chm files in Windows\Help function properly.

    Zendobia,

    I get no error messages.
