    Default Backdoor.Hupigon

When I scan my computer with AVG Anti-Spyware I get a threat called Backdoor.Hupigon. I quarantine it and delete it but it reappears when I scan again with AVG. I googled it to see what it was but I got conflicting reports as to what it does and how much danger it poses. Any information you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

Welcome to the forum, not a really good thing if it is on your computer, see this:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search
    http://research.sunbelt-software.com...threatid=43663
Read all of the information in the second link, especially this:
Severe risks are typically installed without user interaction through security exploits, and may allow an attacker to remotely control the infected machine. Such risks may allow the attacker to install additional malware and use the compromised machine to participate in denial of service attacks, spamming, and bot nets, or to transmit sensitive data to a remote server. The malware may be cloaked and not visible to the user. These risks severely compromise the system by lowering security settings, installing 'backdoors,' infecting system files, or spreading to other networked machines.
Without even proceeding further, if you have that trojan, you need this information:
A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.
One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

I believe you should have that information right away, but I can in no way state with any certainty anything with the limited information you have provided, here are the instructions if you want them:

I guess the best idea is to reformat and re-install. What things do I need to keep in mind when doing this? Any tips would be helpful. Thanks.

I certainly respect your decision. I would have to do the same if the infection was on one of my computers

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to try PC Restore. I was reading on the Dell website and it sounded like it would be the best choice for me since I am not at all a computer genius (as is obvious since I got some virus). Thanks again for the help.
