Hijacked Browser: Yahabags

Everytime I do a search using a search engine like Google, when I click a result I'm routed to some IP address and then to Yahabags.com. Around the same time that started happening, I also suddenly had a ton of pop-ups, but after I ran VundoFix.exe and removed Vundo the popups went away. However, VundoFix and up to date Spybot and Ad-Aware scans have not fixed the Yahabags problem, nor have McAfee Virus scans worked. I use the newest version of Internet Explorer.

Let's try this and see what happens:

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Just so you know, after I ran the ATF Cleaner and right before I rebooted my computer, my McAfee Antivirus program detected Vundo and removed it. I did a VundoFix.exe scan afterwards, and it didn't find any additional Vundo. Still, I think the Vundo tried to reinstall itself within 2 minutes of me emptying all of the files found by the ATF Cleaner. Thanks again for your help.

Good morning, first let me say that the HJT log is clean and showing nothing and McAfee cannot remove Vundo. Anything is possible with this junk, but it just might have needed a reboot to get rid of the junk. Keep a close eye on the computer and write down any information, error messages or the locations and names of any files reported by McAfee as bad. It may be that something was left from Vundo but is not showing in the log, I had not given you the Vundofix link and that program is updated almost daily to keep up with the hackers. If you would like to take another look to see if any hidden Vundo is present, then delete Vundofix on your computer and follow these directions:

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThislogin a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

The fix will often not find Vundo the first time, it may take several runs before it recognizes a hidden Vundo file. Post that log, even if it shows nothing, so I can see it.

Here is a good scan for malware if you want a second opinion, follow the directions and delete or quarantine anything it finds, then post the scan results.

Do this now >>> System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
