popups and smithfraud

Hi, I hope you can help undo some damage from the reckless browsing from my pre-teenager.

Spybotfound Smitfraud-C but wasn't able to remove them. I'm getting popups sending me to all over.

1) What tools have you run so far that you have not mentioned.

C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\ <<< Java is BADLY out of date and likely the reason for the infection. Download the newest version and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.

3) Post a new HJT log and be patient. I would keep this computer offline until it is clean, this junk will download more.

Spybot is still unable to remove smitfraud.C and the popups are still occurring.
I had installed CA's version of EZ Armor as a firewall and virus scanner. I also installed Spywareguard and ad-aware 2007 in addition to spybot.

If your version of Spybot is up to date and fully immunized, then chances are that is a false positive. If you have Spybot issues when we finish, you can post them here:

• Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
• When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP, Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)

Post the uninstall list, combofix log and a new HJT log.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) C:\WINDOWS\system32\BSZIP.DLL <<< use one or more of these free online scans to scan this file and post the information:

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

5) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall:

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS~1\kellyk\APPLICATION DATA~1\SSTEM3~1\ <<< delete that folder

8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and do this.
Post the information from the online scans, the uninstall list and a new HJT log.
