Default SB scan stops at cws

Previous thread from back in June--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a Sony laptop that previouly ran normal speed on DSL, and now is very slow. At about the same time during Spy-Bot scan, it ran thru OK until it stops at Cool Search. Does anyone have any suggestions, or explanation?

    Hi Zenobia
I thought I would repost this thread just to refresh it. I still have the same problem. You asked me to R click at the point it stops scanning, and record the results. I cannot get any response at that point. It locks everything and will not respond to any commands untill I "stop task"( Cont. Alt, Delete). I have done the disc clean up, which does the Delete of temp. internet files. Where do I go from here?

Let me see if I can help you. The main reason for this problem is that Spybot-S&D could have problems to access problematic files. This is the reason why there are so many workarounds for the same symptom. Problematic files are damaged files(physical or digital damaged) but also hidden files.

There are methods to locate the problematic files. One of them is to use the tool Filemon:

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...s/Filemon.mspx

Please run Filemon with Spybot-S&D. With this you should be able to locate the problematic files. Just write down where it stops to access files.

Apart from that, hidden files e.g. used by rootkits could cause such a behavior as well. I'm afraid Filemon won't be able to locate them. So it is recommended to try a rootkit remover as well:

I would suggest to post here what files are found before you try any further steps.
