Need help with Smitfraud and a few other problems.

For the past few days. I've been getting a number of popups, a little bar shows up at the top of my explorer windows prompting me to click it to scan my computer for Spyware/viruses, and ads on sites change into different ads that are not the usual ads. I've run spybot a bunch of times and the usual ones I find are Smitfraud-C, Smitfraud-C.msvps, DeepDive, and sometime Zlob.

Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

At the least you have a Smitfraud infection. Since you posted an obsolete HJT log and no Kaspersky scan results, I must assume you never read the instructions posted above and pinned to the top of this forum. Do so, delete the version of HJT you are running and post the correct version when I next ask for a HJT log. I am going to need to see that Kaspersky scan but please do not post it until I request it.

Follow these directions exactly.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post the C:\rapport.txt, a new HJT log and feedback about performance.

C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Local Settings\Temp\ <<< delete the contents of the Temp folder in red (NOT the folder)

C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\backups\ <<< delete the contents of the HJT backups
Open HJT > Open Misc Tools > Backups > Delete

This one is very important
C:\WINDOWS\movctrlknq.dll <<< delete that file

Once the above junk is deleted, then you have six infected System Restore files. Restart the computer to clear the above files and then follow these instructions:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore

This is saying the same thing:
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

A new Kaspersky scan should be clean if you followed directions. I do not need to see a clean scan, just let me know all is well and I will post valuable closing information for you.
