Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
    http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I am really not sure what you want me to do since you told me about no problems?
The Kaspersky scan is not showing any malware to speak of, delete the file in red to be sure.
    C:\hp\region\EN_US-ie.reg Infected: Trojan.WinREG.StartPage skipped

She has a load of HP redirects which is not making the browser work better, I will suggest removal and you can set any homepage she wants with this information:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...e7_basics.mspx

I also suggest as soon as you have the computer running well, you install Internet Explorer 7 for the additional protection it affords:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...e/default.mspx

Let's do this for now and see what happens:

    1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
    http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

    2) TeaTimer will block changes we must make, use these instruction to turn it off until we are done.
    http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

    3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://qus8.hpwis.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://qus8.hpwis.com/
    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

    4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, let me know if that helped any.

Now start looking at this information:

    thank you for your respose.

the complaint is "it's running slow"
although i didn't notice a long boot up time and haven't had a problem with it on the net.

i will perform your recomendations and give it back to her.

i should make a rule that i can't help anyone that surfs for free p0nr, or goes to poker sites.

Thanks for the feedback, the information in the link:
    http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/m...wcomputer.html
Will go a long way towards improving performance. I also suggest you run a free diagnostic here:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/ If you post a link to that report I would be glad to advise you or you can post here for free advice from folks who know the diagnostic reports well:
    http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=6

Touching on the poker sites, see this information:
    http://www.theregister.com/2007/05/1...e_malware_map/
    http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/05/the_next_net_th.html

As you can see there are no sure safe sites anymore, only keeping the programs we use updated and using good, safe surfing habits do we have a chance of avoiding infections. Staying away from questionable sites will help, but is no failsafe. My advice would be she either play the games online at reputable sites or purchase the game at a software store and still read the eula carefully before installing. I would never suggest any "free" downloads, they rarely are.

Here is some great information from experts in this field that will help you stay clean and safe online.
