    Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
    "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
    http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
    All advice given is taken at your own risk.
    Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

    Sorry for the wait and thanks for posting the correct information. If you still need help, start like this.

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

    Search:
    Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
    Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

    Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    http://www.beyondlogic.org/consultin...rocessutil.htm

    Post only the C:\rapport.txt

    Thanks

    Thanks for returning your information, as you can see Smitfraudfix found the bad stuff, and it also found this:
    »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» hosts
    hosts file corrupted !

    In the next C:\rapport.txt the new hosts file is going to be very large. Before you post the C:\rapport.txt I want you to edit out that hugh hosts file to save space, just mention that you did this to remind me.

    Clean:
    Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
    Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
    Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
    You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
    The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
    A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

    Optional:
    To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
    You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
    Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

    Post the C:\rapport.txt (less the hugh hosts file) and a new HJT log. Include and feedback you think will help.

    Thanks.

    Default Smitfraud report result

    Thank you once again for your help. i am not sure what you wanted me to edit out in the new rapport so i just left the rapport as it is. The other query that i have is that has this process also got rid of the Zlob.Downloader.vcd as well, and i cannot seem to download any new updates from microsoft. Please advise.

    The other query that i have is that has this process also got rid of the Zlob.Downloader.vcd as well
    That is part of the Smitfraud infection, see this:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

    See this information:
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

    Post for me the exact error you get when you try to download Windows Updates.
    Please be positive any error message you post is exact and word for word.

    SQL Server could not find the specified name instance (ACT7)

    It is likely you had other Operating System issues besides the malware which was probably download like this:
    http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=7344

    You may want to consider trying as repair installation of your Operating System?
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...ll&btnG=Search

    Run and post a new Kaspersky scan, let's make sure all malware is gone, please use these settings:

    Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
    Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

    You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

    * The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    * Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    * Now click on Scan Settings
    * In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    * Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    * Standard
    * Scan Options:
    * Scan Archives
    * Scan Mail Bases
    * Click OK
    * Now under select a target to scan:
    * Select My Computer
    * This will program will start and scan your system.
    * The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    * Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    * Now click on the Save as Text button:
    * Save the file to your desktop.

    Then post it here.

    Thanks

    Hi there and thank you very much for your expertise on the other issues that i had. I am currently running the kaspersky scan and hopefully will post it as soon as it is ready.
    whilst that is going on, the microsoft updates dont seem to give any error codes as such...they just display the following message:

    The following updates were not installed

    Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806)
    Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (KB929300)

    These are just the few updates that are not installed and the 'restore hidden updates' option is shaded out so i cannot select that.
    This problem only arised once the malware was on my computer. Please be kind enough to let me know how to resolve this crucial issue.
    Many thanks.
