    Default Standalone version

    Hello,
is there a standalone version to scan?
    For computers without admin rights...
It would be very usefull.. If there was a minimal standalone exe file... Doesn't need to be updated at all times.
Just a little tool to do a quick clean up.
If that doesn't exist, it's an idea worth looking into for S&D...

    Hello,

Do you mean an easier solution for the corporate use?

I believe he means a portable version of spybot. Which makes sense. When we talk about corporations, we also talk about access rights, which are very limited for some users. Thus the importance of a portable/stand alone versions of any security software, and in this particular case, the great spybot search and destroy.

Would be, in fact, great to see it happening or are we allowed to make it happen? And then let you guys know about it?

Now let me go on my humble quest for something I just seem not to know what is at the moment

    All the best!

As an IT genius/programmer (sounds better than IT geek...), I help a lot of people... And their friends... And their friends friends... And their friends friends roommate... You get the picture... lol

    - I've run into spyware that removes access to control panel, removes all admin rights, even if you are logged in as "Administrator" in windows. I don't remember how I solved that one, but you can't install anything on these. A standalone exe would be a quicker cure.
    - For corp machines too, it would be useful.

    Hello,

There is already a portable version of Spybot available:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/43.html

    Or take a look here:
    http://portableapps.com/node/2110

At the moment we have to check if the creators haven't change anything security related so that we can allow it.

Apart from that, Spybot-S&D can be easily used with an USB stick, even if the solution is not perfect. Just install it on the PC and then copy the installation folder on the USB stick.

    Here are some workarounds:
    http://portableapps.com/node/710

Further Spybot - Search & Destroy is not free for the corporate use. Some more information is available on www.safer-networking.ie

    Best regards

Aha, ok thank you for the information, the quick replies, and sorry if the question was in faq...
But a portable version, bootable cds or on my usb stick is exactly what I am after.
Can't believe I didn't try the "copy the installation folder on the USB stick"...

Anyway, thanks to you for fast reply and S&D team for making a geek's life easier... Have to fix my parent's neighbor's daughter's girlfriend's laptop....
