    Exclamation Browsers Not Working?

Hey, after updating and running spybot today, firefox wouldn't open and internet explorer was unable to connect to any website. Can anyone help me out? I tried restoring the problems i fixed with spybot with the the spybot program itself. I tried a system restore. I tried to reinstall firefox, and now all that comes up is a windows window "firefox has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience." I even tried to run winsock fix. Aim works. So it seems to be a problem with the browsers. Does anyone know what Spybot could have done to my computer?

    What should i do?

Maybe its not Spybot's problem... are you using DSL? You can try "power cycling". Or it was likely you caught a virus/spyware. Can Spybot-SD scan though? What operating system are you using?

I have Verizon Fios, through a wireless connection. My computer is running on windows XP. Spybot can scan. I'm running one now. My Symantec norton antivirus is not working either. It says "Symantec Antivirus could not access the scan engine. Make sure the product is properly installed."

    What's power cycling?

I'll assume Norton cannot update... Assuming FiOs is wireless... did you set up any passwords? Like someone can just use your connection as a hotspot via wi-fi (wireless) if you do not have the adequate security settings. Did Spybot find anything? Also, do you have all the latest patches and updates for Windows XP?

    Jbird69:

What version of Spybot are you running (Spybot » Help » About)?

Please explain "after updating". Have you been running Spybot for a while and just do a normal detection update, did you just upgrade to Spybot 1.5.2, etc.?

Please explain "and running". Did you do a "Check for problems" and a "Fix selected problems"? If so what problems did you fix (see note #1)? Did you immunize? If so have you attempted to do an immunization "Undo" to see if your problem is resolved?

Are you running TeaTimer and did you get any registry change notifications? If so what were they and did you "Allow" or "Deny" the changes (see note #2)?

Have you attempted to do a System Restore to a Restore Point prior to when the problem occurred?

Note #1: If you fixed problems there should be a Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log file showing what was detected and what was fixed. In Windows XP the Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm.log files can be found in the following directory:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs

Note #2: The Resident.log file shows actions taken with TeaTimer. In Windows XP the can also be found in the following directory:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs

I was running version 1.4 and did a normal detection update. I did a "check for problems" and a "fix selected problems." This is the Log from that scan and two more I conducted right after it or the next day.

I undid any changes I made with immunize, but the problem still persists. I did not know this at the time, but I am not running TeaTimer. It was disabled when i checked. Should i be running TeaTimer? I also tried a system restore to a point before the scan and the problem still persists. Browsers won't work (Mozilla and IE). Neither does my norton anti-virus. I can update norton antivirus but i cannot perform a scan on my computer. When trying to do so this box pops up: "Symantec Antivirus could not access the scan engine. Make sure the product is properly installed."

    -AIM works.

    Hello,

You are using a dated version of Spybot-S&D.
Please download our current version Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5.2. That should fix it.
You will find links to several download locations for this new version on our web site:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Please search for new updates after installing Spybot-S&D 1.5.2.

If the problem still exists please open the Tools menu in your Internet Explorer and choose 'Spybot - Search Destroy Configuration'.
There you will find a drop down menu where you should select "Ask for blocking confirmation".

If you want to visit a blocked website choose "Allow". Hope this solves the problem.
If this doesn't work please run Spybot-S&D and select "Spybot-S&D" --> "Immunize" in the navigation bar on the left. Please hit "Undo".
Then run Spybot - Search & Destroy and switch to the Advanced mode via the menu item Mode.
Now select 'Tools' - 'Resident' from the navigation bar on the left.
Please untick the checkbox in front of the 'SdHelper'.

    Best regards
    Sandra
