Why doesn't the Update function within Spybot update from prior versions or at least inform us that there is a new version available? I had 1.5.12 at home and 1.2 at work until recently when (viewing your website) I found that 1.5.2 is available.

How can you have v.1.2 at work version 1.5 at home? That is a major version difference.

I would suggest you bookmark this site and regularly visit it every week or so to check if there are updates. The latest version is 1.5.2.20.
Version 1.6 is a upcoming release.
I thought updates would be warning of new versions available. Didn't realize the version difference until I had to uninstall/reinstall on my home pc due to other issues not related to Spybot. Thanks for the link.

If you were running Spybot 1.4 after 2008-01-31, an upgrade to Spybot 1.5.2.20 was offered via the intergraded update facility.
This is the first time that a version upgrade was offered during a regular update.
ps: The update function in Spybot 1.2 hasn't worked since April or May 2004.

I guess I still have my original question . . . so, I'll reword it. Do I need to go to the website to seek out the newest version? Does "download updates" only update my current version with newer detection files and never let me know that there is a newer version available? P.S. I must be wrong on having 1.2. It must have been 1.4.

If you go into Spybot » Help » About and the version displayed is not "Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5.2.20", than I suggest that you:
- Go to Windows » Control panel » Add or Remove Programs » Locate "Spybot – Search & Destroy x.x" » Remove.
- Download the installation program spybotsd152.exe from one of the mirror sites listed here:
- Mirror selection - The home of Spybot-S&D!
http://www.spybot.info/en/mirrors/index.html- Install Spybot 1.5.2.20.
