    Unhappy Cooling fan problem?

I think that there may be something... wrong with my cooling fan.

It seems like the first time I had this problem.

Problem is that my VAIO's cooling fan was continuously running. It sounds just like the time when you run a full virus scan. But this time it was not.

I tried restarting the computer and leaving it idle for 10 mins. but no change. No programs were running at the moment, just background services. Last checked the TaskManager and there was only 28 processes. No program taking any CPU.

    No programs running.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

All is well. Just a brief hour standby solved it. :D

did you ever figure out what was wrong with it? My fan seems to run alot more frequently than it ever has before...I figured it was just my imagination but I've been wrong before.

    angie1313:

Maybe it's time to clean your PC. When dust accumulates it can increase the temperature and cause the fan to run more or faster. There is a tutorial here:

The fan on my works PC has been spinning none stop since installing SP3 (and cpu usage hasn't drop below 30% even when nothing's running), maybe xp3's the problem. It used to be permanatly silent before this.

I started a topic too about the non-stop activation of my cooling fan.

Found out that it was the heat and hot temperatures in New York that was making the fan constantly run. I occasionally clean the dust.

Digerati's post gives a meticulous and long explanation about how to clean the dust from the interior of your machine. Very useful info .
