What this issue really points up is the inherent value in having in place a good disaster recovery program.
I always create a new disk image before installing Microsoft Critical Updates. When I discovered that my internet connection was broken after updating, I simply restored the image and all was right once again. I was then able to search the web for info on what was wrong, and it quickly became apparent that there was an issue with ZoneAlarm.
To ZoneAlarm's credit, they responded to the problem in a very timely manner, releasing a new version update that was fully compatible with the MS Update.
