Can only briefly connect to internet, other computer works fine.

Hello, my father's computer is really slow and he can only connect to the internet for about a minute. We have checked firewall settings, internet options etc, my computer works fine on the same connection, I installed Spybot S&D, updated, immunized, restarted in safe mode, checked for problems, and no threats were found. Is S&D not detecting something?

I can not rule out malware, but nothing is showing in the HJT log. Since one computer connects and this one does not, it is likely something in the connection settings is wrong. I suggest you contact Technical Support at your Internet Service Provider (that is what you pay them for, connection issues) and ask them to help with this problem.

"Is S&D not detecting something?" <<< if "something" is in the Spybot S&D data base, it would be detected. I would be more interested in if Symantec/Norton (that you pay for) is detecting anything or not.

As far as "slow", many things beside malware can cause those issues, I will post links but I suggest you make sure the internet connection is working properly before making other changes.

I see also that you are running IE8 which as far as I am aware is still in beta? If you are having issues with internet connections (which the browser has much to do with) why are you running an experimental version of Internet Explorer.

Do you have another browser onboard such as Firefox? You might see if you can connect with it.
