I have Zlob.DNSchanger

hello,

My Windows Vista computer is infected with Zlob.DNSchanger that I got from installing a supposed video codec. I am unable to get internet access on my computer, so i am typing on my XP laptop. I have Spybot on both. As well as Kaspersky, on both. I downloaded Hijackthis onto a CD and installed it onto my vista computer, and now I have no way of bringing my logs over, unless I make them txt documents and burn them. I have read the stickies, and previous threads about getting rid of Zlob, but I need someone to give my logs to. So could someone help me, and tell me what I need to do to get rid of this virus, and what programs I will need.

Pinned (sticky) to the top of this forum, and posted above are the directions, make sure you have read and followed them.

I can not say if I can help, but I will do my best. The infection you describe, we would normally use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) to remove much if not all of the infection. If you can download MBAM and bring it to the infected computer, you might have a chance.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

1) The instructions from MBAM are:
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
Yet you have posted a report saying: No action taken
When MBAM located the junk causing your problems. Run MBAM again and follow the directions, then the items will read
Quarantined and deleted successfully.
Post the scan result.

2) The HJT log is cut if half, when you copy/paste from Notepad, always choose Edit at the top, them Select All. All information will be highlited, copy and past that infomation.

I actually did delete the virus its just that i got the log before deleting the viruses.

I actually did delete the virus its just that i got the log before deleting the viruses.

Since that was likely what was causing your issues, have they stopped now that you quarantined it?

I suggest you remove the hp redirects unless you use them.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Post a new HJT log and tell me how the computer is running.

The service technicians at your Internet Service Provider would be much better able to help you with that issue. Likely malware changed setting that they will know how to fix. Make sure you explain to them what infection you had. Please let me know how it goes.
