Spybot does not run...

I installed Spybot Search and Destroy. The resident works as I can see it in my taskbar. My updates work perfectly. But for some reason, I cannot run Spybot. Every time I try, my cursor turns into an hourglass for a few seconds, then becomes normal again. Nothing happens. I need help on how to get it to work.

I've just installed Spybot S&D on a new laptop running Vista. I have the same problem - the main program won't start. I've tried the above solutions with no luck. Incidentally, I can open the updater from the start menu & that works OK. I have AVG free 8.5 installed which has never caused problems with Spybot in the past. Any ideas?

I already had the product on mine. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck in getting it to run

On Vista did you choose to run Spybot-S&D as administrator. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/42.html

What is your operating system and are you having problems with any other security program. Does the computer show any signs of infection?

Did the issue start around a particular event. Also, have you tried running the program in safe mode?

I installed 1.62 on Vista Home Premium. Tried running as administrator - still nothing happens. When I click the icon the HDD light comes on but nothing appears on the screen apart from the 'busy' circle which disappears after a few seconds. Something must be blocking the program I presume.

Then start your own thread in the Malware Removal Forum where an analyst will advise you as soon as available.

I was having the same problem - no anti-spyware or anti-virus programs would work. I was finally able to fix it with ComboFix.exe. Although, I had to rename it to Combo-Fix.exe to get it to run.

It identified 3 files as rootkit and removed them. (random names in system32 folder)

Hope this helps.

Also, my problems originated from a bad keygen.
