I have seen the other threads about this and I clicked "abort" If next time it appears and I click retry will it turn the file back to read only after?
As I hear it should stay read only for security.
Thanks yours G

Yep I have read them but they do not seem to give answers to these questions.
Is it legitimate?
Why is the prompt there and does it revert the file back to "read only" after it.
And as it seemed to update ok the box does not re appear so am I protected?
Also when I check in the help tab and click about the version I have is 1.6.2.46.
How far behind is that?
Your version of Spybot is up to date.
When I checked properties for advcheck.dll, mine was checkmarked as read only under attributes after the update,so I assume it reverts the file back to read only afterwards.
Looks like it's legit, and advcheck.dll updates ok from this post:

Oops,missed my edit post time.
Just noticed you said you clicked Abort the first time and the update doesn't reappear.
My version of advcheck.dll is 1.6.4.18.If yours updated ok,I'd guess that would be your version.
It's located at C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy if you want to check.It's hidden,though,so:

If you do check your version, and don't normally have hidden files and folders showing, you'd want to reverse the changes afterwards.
