    Default originally redirected, nowI can't use any search engines

    Originally when I would google or yahoo something I would be redirected. Now they do not work at all. I ran the Hijckthis software as instructed and came across the folowing messages
    1. "For some reason your system denied write access to the Host file. If any hijacked domians are in thisfile, Hijackthis may not be able to fix this. If that happens you need to edit the file yourself. To do this...."

    once I pushed the ok button I received a second message
    2. "Your Host has invalid line breaks and Hijackthis is unable to fix this. 01 items will not be displayed"

    Here is the Hijackthis notepad documentation

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

    Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

    Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

    The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

    Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

    The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

    Please continue as follows:

    1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
      Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

    2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

    When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

    Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

    C:\ComboFix.txt
    New HijackThis log.

    A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

    _____

    Generate an Uninstall List

    * Open HijackThis
    * Click on Open Misc Tools Section
    * Click on Open Uninstall Manager
    * Click on Save list
    * Save it to your Desktop
    * Post it on your next reply.

    I have run the Combofix as intructed. The HijackThis log was generated by simply running HijackThis again (it may just be me). I could not locate Unistall Manager via opening HJT. I only had the option to RUN the program.
    I hdto try Search engines still not working

    The logs are below

    Hi,

    Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

    • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
    • Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

    Thanks for your patience.

    When I go to windows explorer and follow the path to delete c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file, I do not have a file named "hosts". The closest I have is "lmhosts". My other choices are protocol, networks and services. Am I supposed to manually remove the "hosts" file or do I run HostXpert to remove the "hosts" file that I cannot see? My assumption (I will not do anything util you instruct me further) is to delete the "lmhosts" file and then run HostsXpert.

    Hi,

    Let's change order of instructions a bit. Skip hosts file deleting and HostsXpert run and do ComboFix related part with following script instead.

    Code:
    File::
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    Folder::
    c:\program files\TS
    DirLook::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\6fe1d97
    After that, run HostsXpert and follow other steps listed in instructions.
