Sorry all, I posted a second of these after I had my first. Anyway ... I have kept my Spybot up to date, and my computer is working overtime. Fan running in high gear hard drive grinding around and Frozen or unreponsive screens.

When logging off I also get the message: Someone else is logged on to this computer, shutting down now could cause data loss do you want to continue. Hoping I am not a bot machine!!!

Nothing out of the ordinary on your HJT log. As far as other users, what people don't realize is that when a user is done they need to log off, not just switch user, after awhile if there are to many users not logged off it will tend to bog you down, and also give you that message about other uses not being logged off.



You can run these programs from the main account that you use when you log into windows.


Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.





Please download Malwarebytes from Here or Here

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
• Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.

Hi Ken,
I was afraid I was not clear. So let me try again.

Here is the problem. I am the only user on this laptop - me and only me from the day I bought it. That being said, from time to time I see the user accounts and there are other user accts set up that I never set up! I will take it one step further. I have never networked this computer and I have never allowed remote users .... that being said, today - under my list of recent used items is ... Remote Assistance. In addition to that as I said in the waiting room .... when I turned on my computer one day someone else's desktop was there, mine was not ... and I could not do anything with my computer until I broke the wireless internet connection. Every time I go to shut down my computer I get the message that other people are using the computer and shutting down may cause them to lose their work ... but as I said earlier no one else besides me has ever touched this laptop.

That was concern number one ...
Concern number two is the behavior. It takes 10 minutes sometimes for my computer to completely boot up, the hard drive is making all kinds of noise and I freeze up all the time. Sometimes I cant get my task manager to respond, sometimes I can not use my start tab .... it is really misbehaving. I see in the HJT log Roxio P2P, but I don't have that installed on my computer .... it is not in my program list, it is not in my add/remove programs list, and there are no icons anywhere on my computer for this ....

It is not as good as what you think I fear!

I will try everything you suggest after you have seen this reply .... I also have problems running spybot .... it just freezes up for a very long time.

• Open HJT
• Then open the Misc Tools section
• click on Generate a Startup List Log,
• Don't check the 2 boxes just yet.
• Post the log into this thread

Open Hijackthis

• Go to Misc Tools> Open Uninstall Manager.
• Click on Save List.
• The list will open in Notepad.
• Copy and Paste the List into this thread

Hi,

I was looking for some sort of program in your add remove programs that may be related to Remote Assistance. It looks like your running Windows XP Home and Remote Assistance is not available on Home, just Professional.

All those entries for Roxio are for disk burning, we can disable them but then you wont be able to use your burner.


It sounds like from what you are saying is that someone has access to this computer, we need to run a few scans to dig deeper.


Download DDS by sUBs Save it to your desktop.

• DDS.scr
  
  
• Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
• A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
• Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
• Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
• Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

• Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
• Click Yes to continue
• A 'Finished!' message will appear
• Click OK
• DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK

IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:

• Main Mirror
  This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
• Zipped Mirror
  This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.

• Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
• Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
• Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
• Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.
  
  
  
• GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
• If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
• Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
• When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
• Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
• Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.

I still need you to run the programs I posted in my previous post , but do this

Right Click on My Computer
Select Properties
Click on the Remote Tab
If Remote Assistance is enabled, disable it
OK you way out.



Now go to Start > Control Panel and click on the Users tab.

To Make Changes to an Account

1. Click Change an account in the Pick a task list box.
2. Click the account that you want to change.
3. Select the item that you would like to change:
* Click Change the name to change the name that appears on the Welcome screen for the account.
* Click Change the picture to change the picture that is used to represent the user account. You can use any image file on the computer for the user's picture.
* Click Change the account type to change the account type to increase or decrease the user's rights on the computer.
* Click Create/change the password to create or change the password for the user and create or change the password hint.
* Click Delete the account to delete the user account from the computer. When you delete the account, you are given the option to save the user's files on the computer.

Note: You can not delete the account for a user that is currently logged on to the computer.

Oops .... I forgot, I looked at ATF program last night too, but do I have to delete all my usernames and passwords from all my accounts?
