    Try to download SP3 here.
    I get the same error.

SP3 Setup could not backup Registry Key HKCR?RDS.DataControl.2.81 to file C:\windows\$NT ServicePackUninstall$reg00801

    Hi,

Microsoft article here should resolve that issue.

I'm back. Took a while update XP SP# and make the suggested changes using PSI.
I have not been able to fix two items on the PSI list. They are below:

    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\PhotoUploader5.ocx, version 5.5.8.0
Can't seem to find out how to delete this file. Can't find it in the location above and the install solution takes me to a facebook page that is not found.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\PPTVIEW.EXE, version 11.0.8318.0
The 'install solution' updated the viewer to the 2007 version. This did not remove the issue from PSI results.

The computer seems to be running smoothly.

    Hi,

Right click c: drive -> properties -> click disk cleanup -> check "Downloaded Program Files" and click ok.

That should take care of the first issue.

Does your add/remove programs list contain old PowerPoint Viewer? Uninstall if it does. If not rename C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\PPTVIEW.EXE file to PPTVIEW.EXE_OLD.

This did not delete the file. However I opened the command prompt and deleted the file from there.

I performed another PSI scan and the following came up as problems with both being related to the same required update.

    C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\aspnet_wp.exe, version 1.0.3705.6073
    C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_wp.exe, version 1.1.4322.2470

    Service Pack 3
Microsoft Security Patches Not Installed: KB972581

When I tried to install the updates I got the following:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package PROPLUS.MSI in the box below.

Use Source: (there were two options and an option to browse)
    Professional with front page
    \\nos\swedepot\wkstn\apps\msoffice.xp2

I searched for PROPLUS.MSI and did not find it.

    Any suggestions?

As the error shows the program is trying to access network location \\nos\swedepot\wkstn\apps\msoffice.xp2 and fails.

You need to make sure that location is accessible. Otherwise, I don't see other option than reinstall Office (from local media this time).

I plan on updating to Office 2007 or 2010 at the first of the year so I will see if that fixes the problem after the upgrade.
