    Hi,

You seem to have both Microsoft Security Essentials & Norton running there. It's not recommended to have more than one antivirus program running in same system. Please decide which one you want to keep and uninstall the other one.

Post back fresh dds logs (both dds.txt & attach.txt).

    Default fresh logs

    DDS below, Attach attached.

The MSFT thing sort of insinuates itself when I download Windows updates, it's not that I want it, necessarily.

Is one better than the other? Also, if Norton is better, how do I get rid of MSE?

Finally, it seems like lots of little freebie parasite apps have attached themselves to the system. Sometimes, the uninstall process takes me to some website where I have to click "OK." This makes me uncomfortable and leaves me wondering if, in fact, the bogeymen have really and truly been uninstalled completely. Can you tell from the logs?

    Thx,

    schmoe

    Hi,

Is one better than the other? Also, if Norton is better, how do I get rid of MSE?
Both are good. It's up to you which one you want to keep.

Don't see malware in logs. However, some programs there're outdated. You should run a scan with Secunia PSI program you have there and fix its findings.
