Failed to get object at index 0 error

I've found some reference to the problem elsewhere with other users, but haven't found an offered solution to this beyond uninstall and reinstall. It started this after a recent update. The program won't open, save a small dialogue box in the lower left corner with no dialogue. All I can do is close program, and that is the error that is displayed on closing.
