There are manual detection updates available on the downloads page,under Other Downloads.Those are the includes,so if you'd like to download those,it would get you started until the updates can be downloaded through the program:

You'd just download the manual updates,and follow the prompts.If you have a 64-bit operating system,the default location for the Spybot folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.If you have a 32-bit operating system,the default location would be C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2
Could you check your Update.logfile again,does it show any activity after September 19th?
What other security software do you have installed,if I might ask?And what do you have for a firewall,is it the one included with Windows 8?
