The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "Directorio.Winlogon" manually.
Use this guide at your own risk; software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper.

Description:
Directorio.Winlogon is a rootkit with worm characteristics. Once run it copies itself to the temp and profile directories. It suppresses security, debugging and antimalware programs. It connects to the Internet in order to download further malware. Directorio.Winlogon changes the browser and registry settings. The current user account is restricted from using any essential Windows tools to remove the infection. We advise the Usage of a Boot CD.
Removal Instructions:

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • The file at "<$COMMONPROGRAMS>\Windows Media Center.exe".
  • The file at "<$COMMONSTARTMENU>\Windows DVD Maker.exe".
  • The file at "<$COMMONSTARTUP>\Windows Update.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROFILE>\<$ENV(Dir)>\winlogon.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMS>\Internet Explorer.exe".
  • The file at "<$STARTMENU>\Fax y Escáner de Windows.exe".
  • The file at "<$STARTUP>\Windows Anytime Upgrade.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Directorio.Winlogon uses rootkit technologies, use the rootkit scanner integrated into Spybot-S&D 2.x or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.
  • The directory at "<$PROFILE>\<$ENV(Dir)>".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Directorio.Winlogon uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Default_Page_URL" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Default_Page_URL" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Default_Search_URL" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Default_Search_URL" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Local Page" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Local Page" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Search Page" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Search Page" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Start Page" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Remove "<regexpr>http\://. \.directorio\-w\.com" from registry value "Start Page" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
If Directorio.Winlogon uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.

There are more registry entries that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Hosts:

The host file is a local address book for Internet pages. It is sometimes used by malware to block certain domains, or to silently redirect them.
Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer will show its content to you; you can also us a text editor to locate and edit the file "hosts" (most likely in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\).
  • Check the hosts file entry for the domain "*hotmail.com".
  • Check the hosts file entry for the domain "*viabcp.com".
