Exclamation Deleting Spybot to upgrade to XP SP2?

Is it really necessary, as HP says, to delete all spyware programs before updating to XP SP2? Would Spybot see SP2 as spyware while trying to download and install? Any ideas?

    Hi there.

HP? Go to the source, Microsoft.

Please read their faqs before you proceed:

You must ensure the computer is free of malware before you upgrade to Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2)

Windows XP Service Pack 2 is cumulative, meaning it includes Service Pack 1 and all updates predating the release of SP2.

As far as Spybot is concerned, it is not necessary to 'delete' it; just turn off teatimer if you are using that and, if you wish, you can also disable SD Helper (Spybot, advanced mode, Tools tab, resident page uncheck both resident SD Helper and Resident Teatimer).

Similarly, for other antivirus and antispyware programs, no need to 'delete' them, just turn off any active monitoring before installing SP2.
