Default windows XP threat won't let me open safe mode

I downloaded a virus yesterday (actually) several at one time. AVG caught most, ADaware caught some and spybot picked up the rest. However, I still cannot open Internet explorer, a window pops up that then tries to download a 'system integrity wizard'. Also, I can no longer open windows in the safe mode...here is my hijack this log

    Default trojan horse Generic2.ETW

I'm new at this and lost my original post. I picked up a virus on saturday and AVG keeps healing different virus names, Spybot has now cleaned out about 9 or 10 and Adaware catches about 12 new ones every four or five hours. It seems that every time I open IE explorer, I get several. It has also somehow stopped my capability of running in safe mode?? (it will run safe with networking)...anyway, here is my hijack this log...fresh this morning.

Hi Terry and welcome to the forum. I believe we have a hidden trojan, please do this.

Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
When you get it moved then right click the HijackThis.exe and rename it to say terry.exe or whatever. Restart the computer and post a fresh HJT log. We should be able to see the hidden stuff then.

Please describe all symptoms you are receiving, if there are popups, where are you being directed, anything you think will help.

    Thanks

Default it continues to pester me...

    Let's see where to start...
    1. it usually starts with a small blue window that says "your computer may be infected...click here to download a system integrity scan wizard"
    2. if I close it on the task bar, it then redirects my explorer usually to a virus software page.
    3. I've also noticed if I keep closing the windows, eventually, it shuts off (for lack of a better term) my windows task bar.

I've tried a ton of scans but nothing finds it...symantec found two trojan horse files in my local settings one, it called errorsafe and the other systemdoctor. but in going in to find them...they were hidden, even in safe mode??

so, here's the new terry.exe (hijack this) file...

Thanks for the feedback, this is the Vundo trojan and other junk. Keep in mind the hackers change the file name so often to stay ahead of us that the fix we use may not recognize the file name the first time. You may have to run it several times. you are looking for all of the files it locates to show they have been deleted. Then move on to the rest of the instructions.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

    1) Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

    2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.
    Click OK.

    3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
    http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

(some files may be gone, just don't miss any)

    4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1DAEFCB9-06C8-47c6-8F20-3FB54B244DAA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\catlbwmn.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

    5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\afbfqq.dll <<< delete that file

    6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the Vundofix report, a new HJT log and let me know how the computer is running.

    Thanks

Thanks for the kind words, not me but there are some gods working at this forum though. Terry, you missed one of the BHO items. It is dead (has no file) but I suggest you use HJT to get rid of it:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {32C4D168-A9C7-ADC3-5CE5-0A6E2AFC2DA5} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\crzvpnj.dll (file missing)

The balance of the log look great, nice job with those complex instructions You may rename HJT if you wish. Let's do this:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

If you need it re-opened please send me or your helper a private message (pm) and provide a link to the thread; this applies only to the original topic starter.

    Glad we could help, cheers.
