I installed the beta version a couple of days ago and at first everything seemed fine.
Unfortunately last night Teatimer decided to eat my registry
It started with a normal popup about a registry entry being changed (the Real updater I think) I denied it as usual,
then it almost covered the screen in popups about new entries being made. AHHHH I thought and denied them all quickly---DOH.
They didn't stop coming so I disabled teatimer and rebooted into safe mode for a malware scan----All clean ?????
I rebooted in my normal account and everything I clicked came back withAfter a lot of swearing and yes I mean a LOT, I managed to re-associate a .reg file to work and merged a backup I had of the entire registry (thank god for paranoia :D )This file has no associated program (or something similar )
Please set the file association in Control Panel--Folder Options--File Types

I'm not clear: Is 1.5 intended ONLY for Vista? I know that the Vista version will have added anti-malware protection, but what of those of us who just bought XP computers (because Vista is going to be buggy for a while, IMHO)??
Is 1.4 the end of the road for XP SD.
@CEBII & jonathanbean: 1.5 will even bring back Win95 support as wqell.
The added anti-malware protection from Vista is a joke. First, the whole Vista package isn't Certified for Vista at all. And if Microsofts anti-malware protection actually follows their own standards, there is a documented way how malware is allowed to shut it down.
@katana: the full registry? TeaTimer does only monitor special parts, not everythingBut file extension handlers belong into that category. There was a possible problem with an older beta that used the old snapshots... could you take a look if you have a Snapshots2 folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\ ?

Hi PepiMK
I don't know if it tied to eat the whole registrybut I only had a full backup available. I am not very clued up on the registry, and absolutely nothing would open or work so I went into panic mode and restored the lot.
Yes I do have the Snapshot2 folder, What info do you want from it ?

Just wanted to know if it exists, because then it isn't the very early TeaTimer beta variant that could have mixed file extension handlers
I'm going to put another new TeaTimer into Beta tomorrow with yet a bit improved error handling in panic mode... and will take a look at the Real stuff, need to test something there anyway![]()

The teatimer message as something like:-
New registry value added
old data (blank)
new data %1

I have installed SD 1.4 and then the "sbsdtools15beta" on an IBM ThinkPad T41 notebook, running Vista Ultimate (RTM version) and rebooted.
The Vista Security Centre tells me "Windows Defender and Spybot - Search_Destroy both report that they are turned off".
If I click on the "Turn On" button, I get another dialog box that gives me the opportunity to "Turn on Spybot - Search Destroy"
If I select that, I get a warning about trusted appplications and if I click through that, the mainh Spybot 1.4 application loads.
Even after SD 1.4 loads, the Vista Security Centre still reports that ""Windows Defender and Spybot - Search_Destroy both report that they are turned off".
I'm certainly not able to use the Vista Security Centre to "monitor if Spybot-S&D is up-to-date and whether the permanent protection (TeaTimer) is running or not."
What's is going wrong here?![]()
Cheers,
Bill
hopefully yes. in the meantime, here's the link to the updated spybotsd.exe 1.41 beta file which should run under Win95:
http://www.safer-networking.org/file...sd141pefix.zip
extract the spybotsd.exe file from the .zip file onto the folder where you installed the Spybot S&D software and overwrite the existing version with the newer one.
it would be nice if there was a 1.5 beta version of the spybotsd.exe main application file available for beta testing.
