Default I just installed 1.5 and have two questions

When I installed, it connected to the net and downloaded something during the install. Many times, though, I need to be able to install without a net connection. Will that still work?

Also, what happened to the secure shredder, it seems to have been removed. I used that often.

EDIT: I saw that a program called Eraser was recommended, but I've seen some problems with that recently, and it also has that damn bug of causing Windows to lose the ability to see and use .ttf files until you reboot.

    Hello,

Probably you have choosen to install the detection updates?

Spybot-S&D 1.5 does not support the Secure Shredder anymore.
There is a simple reason, the Secure Shredder is outdated
and so it is not really "secure" without any enhancements.
The problem is that we don't have the time for this little tool.
Our focus is Spybot-S&D. There are already good data erasing tools out there and so we won't working on the Secure Shredder anymore.

If you like, we would recommend another tool for deleting sensitive data. The tool "Eraser".

I am pretty sure I did not check anything. I don't want to re-install, are you sure it's possible to install while offline?

(also, I didn't want to use Eraser for the reasons I mentioned in my initial post)

Secure Shredder was usually the main reason why I started Spybot-S&D. And now it's gone, I guess I have to try that Eraser thingie.

Is Shredder coming back in the future? If not, the help file should be updated, because it still mentions it.

There is another alternative to the Secure Shredder and the Eraser tool. If you're also looking for a nice program to manage your public and private encryption keys, you could kill two birds with one stone and get GPG4Win, which includes a shredder. Here's how:
    1. Go to http://www.gpg4win.org/
    2. Download and install Gpg4win (latest version: 1.1.2)
    3. Let icons for the program be placed on your desktop (you can move or delete them later, and you can create and/or import public/private key pairs later if you want to do that too)
    4. Double-click the "WinPT" desktop icon, then close the key manager window that opens by default (Note: If you remove the " --keymanager" ending from the shortcut's target line, then only the system tray icon will be launched; that way you could put the shortcut into your startup folder and always have the shredder a "right-click, click" away!)
    5. Right-click the "Windows Privacy Tray v1.2.0" system tray icon in your system tray and choose "File Manager"
    6. Drag and drop any file(s) you want to shred into the File Manager window that appears
    7. Click on File, Wipe and choose the number of "shredding passes" desired

Was the question regarding updating without a net connection answered already? If not: yes, manual updater that you can carry on a USB stick or whatever will still be available as usual from our download page
