Running Win XP/SP2 with the following protection programs. Have I got to many? Can I eliminate any?

    SuperAntiSpyware
    AVG Anti-Spyware
    SpywareBlaster
    SpywareGuard
    AD-Aware
    AVG-Anti Virus
    Comodo Fire Wall

    Any recomendations?

    Hello.

Often antispyware programs get along and scans from one may find items that the other programs did not.

However you should not have more than one 'resident protection' enabled.

How Spybot-S&D protects against the installation of Spyware/Malware.

On my own machines, I removed SpywareGuard because it doubled up.

According to their websites, niether AVG Anti-Spyware Free or SuperAntiSpyware Free provide resident protection. Unless you have paid for versions, they shouldn't be a problem to have as 'on call' scanners.

    AVG-Anti Virus
    Comodo Fire Wall
One anti virus and one firewall is correct.

Make sure the Windows firewall is disabled if using Comodo's.

    Best wishes.

think i will also do away with SuperAntispyware. its really confusing what i should or shouldn't have, but you guy's have bailed me out with my Zlob thing, so trust your judgement. thanks tashi. your help appreciated...

    Default vundofix

After your help in ridding the Zlob from my computer I see I still have "VundoFix Backups" listed in windows explorer. Do I still need this, or can I delete it?
    Thanks, Don

If you really want something more on top of antivirus, firewall ,antispyware you are better off adding something using a different technology which is likely to give you increasing yields in prevention and detection.

    You can try a Sandbox
    or a behavior blocker .

Sandboxie is pretty lightweight and well respected example of the first. For the second, either Threatfire (for novices), or something like System Safety Monitor (for advanced users) would be good.
