    Hi,
sorry for the delay: spybot takes quite a long time to scan and i needed to wait until i didn't need the laptop for a while.

Thankfully all the problems seem to have gone. The only thing that comes up in spybot is a Statcounter cookie, which i may pick up from being on the net, not sure which site though.

I shall try removing it again and see if it comes back on its own after a reboot.

You'll get rid of most cookies with hosts file modification (included in my instructions).

Had another look at the host file instructions, and have now installed it. I was initially put off by the fact that I didn't really understand what it did...

anyway, thanks again. I shall try another scan and see if anything has come back tommorrow, but it seems to be fixed now.

    thanks!
