wmptray.exe - Media Codec Error Message .........
I was browsing some video sites with Apple's Safari when I hit a site that flashed multiple windows on my screen saying that my Media Codec was out of date and that I needed to update it. I disconnected the computer from the network and didn't touch anything again. Spybot Teatimer displayed a message saying a program (C:\Program Files\MediaSystem\wmptray.exe) was trying to change a registry value. I hit <deny>, but the message kept reappearing. This program has since disabled <Ctrl-Alt-Del>, took over my desktop background, took over my video display preferences, reset my display resolution, installed a file I can remove, and keeps displaying error messages (I haven't hit any <ok> buttons but I did hit the <x> to close a window - this is when the problem started.
Spybot didn't find anything, I thought I've kept it up tp date, but perhaps it isn't. An up-to-date McAfee anti-virus software didn't see anything either. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware two registry entries for "Hijack.DisplayProperties" and for Trojan.WinCoDecPRO: one Memory Process (C:\Program Files\MediaSystem\wmptray.exe), one registry value, 4 files, one Registry Value and a Folder.
